Two Weeks!

Well, it has been two weeks since we left Bozeman. It is pouring rain here this morning, which is fun for us. We don't see down pours in MT like we are having here right now. I am still in drought mode. I can't help but be excited for rain, any rain! I don't think that it is needed here and it is not really what we want for the project. Oh well, everyone keeps telling us that when the dry season starts here it does not rain at all. So that should dry things out pretty well.

This is a view from our covered porch. You can see the rain coming down!

This is the roof of house one in the orphanage and the security wall topped with broken glass. On the other side of the wall you can see the trees on the land for the expansion. If I had zoomed in closer you could have seen one of Josh's markers with pink flagging on it. It is a piece of bamboo instead of the lath he uses in MT!

While waiting for things to start happening with the project Josh has been doing some surveying to lay out the front wall. He spent all morning yesterday working on that and then in the afternoon helped to fix a clogged sink.

Dan, Clara, and Paul played on the tricycle and were able to get a ride inside the compound. They loved that! Last Sunday we fit five adults and five children on one of these. We started to tip over backwards the first time we began to go. They then shifted the people around and took off. We only went about a mile but I was nervous the whole way. Then we went back the same way.

The kids were so excited that I found some instant oatmeal at the grocery store. They have been asking for oatmeal for breakfast everyday. I also have a few raisins left to add to it. It has been a treat. We also have ovaltine, so they often have hot chocolate with breakfast or with an afternoon snack. I keep telling myself it is fortified. We are out of powdered milk right now. I will get some next time we go to the grocery store.

Ate Beth the cook made some Bicol Express for Josh a couple of nights ago. It is a very spicy dish with vegetables and chicken cooked in fish oil sauce. He liked it and ate it all. I don't like spicy or fishy so I did not even try it. I am a little more adventurous when we eat lunch with the staff, but when we are in the house I am a little more cautious!

Josh and I have both been dealing with a little bit of travelers sickness but it is not too bad. The kids are all healthy so far. We are praising God for that and praying that they stay healthy. We could use continued prayer that the changes to the plans will be completed soon so that the contractors can submit their bids. Then that the right contractor will be selected! Hopefully this will all happen very soon! God's timing is perfect not ours right?!

  1. Hi guys,

I must say Clara looks a little wary of the local cuisine! Everyone looks great. The McKenzies look pretty pale next to the Filipino children, but they are all smiles.

Leonard had his surgery yesterday morning. It went very well. The doctor found a lot of arthritis in the front of the joint that did not show up on the MRI. There was no cartilage in the joint at all! It appears to be the cause of his pain. Now it seems the decision to go ahead with the fusion was the right one.
He will be home bound for at least 4 weeks and about 12 hours after the surgery announced he was already bored. Sheesh! We could use prayers for patience.

Hope you are staying dry. Even thought it is mild here, it looks a lot nicer there.

    Take Care,
    Jane M
